The Pro-Social Town House by Freddie Yates To address the issues of gentrification and rising rents in the district of Kreuzberg, Berlin, I located a number of sites within the urban fabric of the city where mixed-use interventions could create low-rent homes for impoverished and disadvantaged groups such as migrants. Combining flexible self-build design principles with the sociological ideals of place-making, these buildings would include Co-Living facilities, places of employment, and spaces available for use by the wider community. The focus of my project was on a site next to a primary school, where my proposal included a timber workshop, a co-working space and a café, with adaptable homes stacked above
