The Weaved City by Bianca Turnea The project takes over the vacant homes in South Kensington and challenges privatisation and the gentrification happening in the area by building a community that can sustain itself. It re-appropriates and connects the street and the rear gardens with collective forms of production. The ‘parasite’ forms the link between the two by opening up the façade to allow access to various spaces for selling and interaction, community workshops, and eventually the garden. The entire scheme is seen as a parasitic architecture that slowly spreads to the other targeted neighbourhoods. In the first location, bananas and pineapples are grown in hydroponic and aeroponic systems. The fruits are sold together with textiles and fabrics made out of by-products such as leaves and peels, creating a sustainable cycle and diminishing food waste.
