This year OPEN, the annual exhibition of student work from the School of Architecture + Cities, has transformed to become both virtual and encompass a range of events and experiences exploring the possibilities of the new digital landscape. Virtual OPEN began on the 2nd July with the publication of the exhibition catalogue, a film of our students' work, and the start of a two-week programme of webinars and events. These culminate on Thursday 16th July with the launch of an experimental immersive exhibition. Please join us. It's unlike anything any of us have seen before! Enjoy the programme of events, and see you on the 16th in the virtual show.

COMPETITION: OUTFIT YOUR AVATAR FOR OPEN

The legendary 1931 Beaux Arts Ball was a celebration of the future. A celebration of a new age of architecture sweeping the world. This year we will do the same. The Immersive Exhibition opening on the 16th July is a celebration of not only The University of Westminster's students, but of their ability to adapt, learn and produce world class work in the most difficult of conditions. Like all celebrations you'll need to get dressed up for the occasion. In the current circumstances, you'll also need to come as an avatar. We're reinventing the Beaux Arts Ball for the purpose and inviting you to design an avatar outfit fit for the occasion. Make it special. What building would you like to wear?

The competition is open to all, and all the entries will be included as exhibits in the show. The best five, chosen by our panel of esteemed judges, we will 'rig' (as it's known in the trade) and add to our collection of outfits you'll be able to choose from on the night for your avatar. If you're still not sure what we mean, do come back over the next few days, and you'll see more examples appearing.

COMPETITION RULES:

- You are to design only the outfit, not the avatar. We will supply the avatar for you to dress in the Rhino Competition Template.

- In the spirit of the original ball, your outfit must be clearly based either on the work of a celebrated architect, or be based on one of their buildings. (It's an Architecture show!)

- The competition is open to all from Westminster or elsewhere, student or practitioner. And yes, if you are a celebrated architect, you can come as one of your own buildings!

- Entries must be in by midnight on Tuesday 7th July

- Judging will take place on Wednesday, winners will be announced Thursday 18.30, and the entries will be published on the Virtual OPEN site.

Start your design here. Download the template and follow the guide.

Once you have completed your avatar outfit email the Rhino file to office@fabricationlab.london (max 10mb)

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: MIDNIGHT, TUESDAY 7th JULY
