Fabrication Lab Remodel Phase 1

Transforming the former Digital Workshops into the first spaces of the Fabrication Lab - the Podium Laser Lab and the CNC Lab - this first phase of remodelling the Marylebone facility introduced a great range of new digital machining and manufacturing capabilities to the university’s College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries. Adding a range of new industrial robots, CNC routing and milling machines, expanded 3D print and laser cutting as well as a brand-new open design for making spaces at the Marylebone Campus, this project completely reinvented the disused spaces with a huge impact on student experience.

This project enabled the Fabrication Lab to host a huge range of new teaching and research events in FAB FEST, Digital Fabrication Week and Fabrication Workshops across the School of Architecture + Cities. It also sparked the beginning of an ecology of later development and research projects, which continue to advance the learning of emergent technologies for the built environment.
