This year OPEN, the annual exhibition of work by students from the School of Architecture + Cities has gone virtual. It’s a step taken out of necessity, but also as a way of embracing and engaging with new ways of working digitally, and of interacting with both architecture and each other.
We’ve taken a bold, speculative approach to hosting an exhibition, and have involved all the students and staff of the school – more than 700 people - in the construction of an innovative game engine based immersive experience. We've combined a mammoth body of work into a single digital world. We now have however a new framework to develop and use in a number of different ways as we continue with a virtual existence over the coming months.
VIRTUAL OPEN IS LIVE.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: CENTRAL HALL IS LOADING SLOWLY PLEASE TRY AGAIN IF IT DID NOT LOAD ON THE FIRST TRY.
You will be able to experience two thirds of this year’s work via pixel-streaming directly from your web browser (ideally Google Chrome).
This is new technology, developed very quickly, by a very small team. We think you’ll be surprised - it works well and gives a whole new experience of our design studios and our students’ work. But please bear in mind it’s a preview of the show, and a Beta of the software, so it may contain a bug or two. We will be releasing a second version next week, along with the remainder of the work, and will continue to build the technology.
For now, please give it a go, and we hope you enjoy the show!
